Home » TREC-USA Judges

TREC-USA encourages members to become recognized judges. TREC-USA supports 4 levels of judges:

Day Judge– Day Judges do not need to be members. They may receive training the day of an event, usually on a specific Obstacle, Orienteering checkpoint, or Control of Paces line judging. They must be trained each time they serve as a day judge. They may not serve as a member of the ground jury.

National Judge– National judges have attended a training session about Obstacles and TREC-USA scoring sheets, learned to properly mark and score competitors trip cards used during the Orienteering Phase, and learned how to record Control of Paces scores and faults. They are familiar with TREC-USA rules, practiced judging competitors, and discussed judging techniques. They must re-certify National Judges training every 2 years. They may serve on the ground jury.

International Judges– International Judges have completed at least 3 years of National judging. International judges will have attended training either in the USA, or in Europe, using FITE obstacle specs and scoresheets and a day of practice judging competitors using International rules. They must re-certify every 2 years. They may serve as ground jurors and are preferred foreman of the ground jury.

International Trainer of Trainers Judge– International Judges who have been International Judges for 2 years, actively judged at the International level and have completed Trainer of Trainer judges training with FITE.
